This morning, The Taxpayers Association of Oregon issued a press release highlighting two polls on John Kitzhaber, showing that his reelection bid is in deep trouble. The bad news for John Kitzhaber is a continuation of a strong trend among Oregon voters that show just how badly Kitzhaber’s third term as Governor has gone.
The first poll cited was conducted by KATU News and contains a pretty damning nugget:
But here’s something to watch. A majority of voters think Kitzhaber is personally to blame for Cover Oregon’s failure. Twenty percent said he’s to blame for all of Cover Oregon’s problems, 19 percent said he’s to blame for most of the problems and 37 percent said he’s to blame for some of the health exchange’s problems. Only 19 percent said he deserves none of the blame.
The second poll was done at the behest of the Taxpayers Association:
Kitzhaber’s 100-Day Media Meltdown drives negatives to new high
– 55% Oregon voters want him replaced!
By Taxpayer Association of Oregon PAC
A new Oregon poll by national pollster, Wenzel Strategies, and the Taxpayer Association of Oregon PAC shows that voter sentiment to replace Governor John Kitzhaber has now reached the majority of Oregon voters.
- A surprising 55% of voters told pollsters it is “time for someone new” to be governor. (Poll Data)
- This is 6% higher than a similar Oregon Public Broadcasting poll done the previous month where 49% of Oregon voters said Kitzhaber “should not be re-elected”.
The poll reflects plummeting bad news for Kitzhaber and a rising opportunity for challenger candidate State Representative Dennis Richardson.
It remains to be seen whether the Republican challenger can reverse three decades of bad GOP campaigning and take advantage of the ongoing series of bad news stories coming out of Camp Kitzhaber. One thing is certain, however: there may never have been a more wounded incumbent Democrat ripe for the picking in recent memory.
