Obama Signs Executive Order To Allow Martial Law, Dictatorial Powers In Peace Time *UPDATED*

dictator

Nationalize entire industries.

Take total control over all food, water, energy, transportation and other necessary resources – both production and distribution.

Draft people with specific skills to work for the government without compensation.

These are just some of the unconstitutional powers Obama has granted himself with a new Executive Order.  It was signed and released Friday night, after the evening news cycle was already finished, at the start of March Madness, when nobody was watching.

Kenneth Schortgen Jr reports at The Examiner:

On March 16th, President Obama signed a new Executive Order which expands upon a prior order issued in 1950 for Disaster Preparedness, and gives the office of the President complete control over all the resources in the United States in times of war or emergency.

The National Defense Resources Preparedness order gives the Executive Branch the power to control and allocate energy, production, transportation, food, and even water resources by decree under the auspices of national defense and national security.  The order is not limited to wartime implementation, as one of the order’s functions includes the command and control of resources in peacetime determinations.

Section 101.  Purpose.  This order delegates authorities and addresses national defense resource policies and programs under the Defense Production Act of 1950, as amended (the “Act”).

(b)  assess on an ongoing basis the capability of the domestic industrial and technological base to satisfy requirements in peacetime and times of national emergency, specifically evaluating the availability of the most critical resource and production sources, including subcontractors and suppliers, materials, skilled labor, and professional and technical personnel; – White House

Additionally, each cabinet under the Executive Branch has been given specific powers when the order is executed, and include the absolute control over food, water, and other resource distributions.

Sec. 201.  Priorities and Allocations Authorities.  (a)  The authority of the President conferred by section 101 of the Act, 50 U.S.C. App. 2071, to require acceptance and priority performance of contracts or orders (other than contracts of employment) to promote the national defense over performance of any other contracts or orders, and to allocate materials, services, and facilities as deemed necessary or appropriate to promote the national defense, is delegated to the following agency heads:

(1)  the Secretary of Agriculture with respect to food resources, food resource facilities, livestock resources, veterinary resources, plant health resources, and the domestic distribution of farm equipment and commercial fertilizer;

(2)  the Secretary of Energy with respect to all forms of energy;

(3)  the Secretary of Health and Human Services with respect to health resources;

(4)  the Secretary of Transportation with respect to all forms of civil transportation;

(5)  the Secretary of Defense with respect to water resources; and

(6)  the Secretary of Commerce with respect to all other materials, services, and facilities, including construction materials.

(e)  “Food resources” means all commodities and products, (simple, mixed, or compound), or complements to such commodities or products, that are capable of being ingested by either human beings or animals, irrespective of other uses to which such commodities or products may be put, at all stages of processing from the raw commodity to the products thereof in vendible form for human or animal consumption.  “Food resources” also means potable water packaged in commercially marketable containers, all starches, sugars, vegetable and animal or marine fats and oils, seed, cotton, hemp, and flax fiber, but does not mean any such material after it loses its identity as an agricultural commodity or agricultural product.

Executive Orders created for national defense and national preparedness are not new in American history, but in each instance they brought about a Constitutional crisis that nearly led standing Presidents to hold dictatorial power over the citizenry.  During the Civil War, President Lincoln halted freedom of speech and freedom of the press, while at the same time revoking Habeas Corpus and the right to a fair trial under the sixth amendment.  During World War I, when Congress refused to grant Woodrow Wilson extended power over resources to help the war effort, he invoked an Executive Order which allowed him complete control over businesses, industry, transportation, food, and other economic policies.

In both cases, it was only after the death of each President that full Constitutional powers were restored to the citizens of the United States.

Pamela Geller observes at Atlas Shrugs:

It calls for a draft, but not just a draft. A civilian draft, of “persons of outstanding experience or ability” without compensation. If they think they need you, they can compel you to work for the government for nothing.

They can, under this order, restrict civilian travel by any mode, including (probably) foot travel. They can ration food. They can restrict water usage, even from private wells. They can ration any and all drugs, including OTC and vitamins. They can collectivize farms. They can take over all energy production, including home solar units.It also allows for drafting civilians. If they have need of your skills, they can compel you to work for no compensation.

All this not in a time of war, but in time of “National Emergency” (several EO national emergency states already in place) or even in Peacetime.

And he hasn’t even won re-election ……. yet. One can only imagine what the saboteur has in store for us.

Obama saved this for a Friday evening news dump because he didn’t want it making the evening news cycle when people are paying attention.

Wonder why?

UPDATE:  After examining the language, Ed Morrissey of Hot Air and Gabriel Malor of Ace of Spades HQ believe this are merely procedural updates to an old executive order and nothing to worry about.   I’ll leave it to you to decide.

I have no doubt that Obama intends to stay in power by any means necessary, whether that means stealing the election (if he thinks he can) or using OWS riots or an Iran strike as an opportunity to grab “emergency powers.”  Time will tell.

The sad part is that with all of Obama’s power grabs, constitutional violations and deliberate violations of the separation of powers up to this point, Americans are justified in fearing the real threat of possible dictatorship with no accountability from congress.   The reaction we see to moves like this reflects just how palpable that fear is becoming for the American people.

    If you follow the links to previous executive orders, he’s just updating what Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton did before him. In regards to compensation, he repeated, nearly word for word, what Clinton had in his EO from 1994.

  • Column: States rights across the aisle February 22, 2017
    It’s not unusual for political dynamics to shift as political powers shift at the federal level. But the dynamics are changing pretty quickly as we enter the second month of President Donald Trump’s administration. Notably, Democratic governors and mayors have been defending their values and speaking for their constituents with an argument often used by […]
  • Democrats call, again, for action on ‘levy cliff’ February 22, 2017
    Some school districts may have to send out pink slips if the state legislature doesn’t pass the Democrats’ “levy cliff” bill, argued Democratic leadership at their weekly press conference Tuesday. “I’m hearing from superintendents too,” said Rep. Kristine Lytton, Anacortes, at the press conference. “They are trying to dig into the complexity of the senate […]

    After facing criticism for their budget plan, Republican leaders defended their education funding proposal Monday at a press conference, and made their own criticisms of the Democrat’s levy cliff bill. Washington GOP legislators’ plan is to implement something of a “levy swap” to fund education in Washington. Background Senate Republicans announced their plan Jan. 27 […]
  • Free for a Limited Time Four More Years February 22, 2017
    Washington DC’s H Street streetcar has failed in just about every way possible. The 2.2-mile line cost $200 million, which is enough to build ten to twenty miles of four-lane freeway; it opened years behind schedule; and–despite being free “for a limited time”–it carries a paltry 2,400 people per weekday, which in a sane world […]

    Speaking of congestion (as the Antiplanner was yesterday), a new congestion scorecard from Inrix estimates that congestion cost America $295 billion in 2016, which is more than 1.5 percent of 2016 GDP. Where the Texas Transportation Institute’s previous estimates of congestion costs counted only the cost to commuters, Inrix adds costs to consumers who must […]
  • Good News and Bad News February 20, 2017
    Good news: The United States had 56,000 structurally deficient bridges in 2016. That’s good news because the number in 2015 was nearly 59,000. In fact, the number has declined in every year since 1992 (the earliest year for which records are available), when it was 124,000. The American Road and Transportation Builders thinks 2016’s number […]
