MaxRedline: Sorry,Suzanne
In her KATU interview Tuesday, Democratic candidate Suzanne Bonamici seemed woefully unprepared. The wife of the long-time lawyer for former Rep. David “Tiger” Wu, now contending for Wu’s vacant seat against Republican Rob Cornilles, touts among her credentials a record of “job creation”.
Asked about her job-creation credentials compared to Cornilles, Bonamici mentioned her teenage years working for her mother’s small business. She disagreed that Cornilles is the only candidate who has created jobs, saying there is “no question about it” that she can call herself a job creator.
She pointed to her legislative accomplishments as a state representative and state senator in helping small businesses get loans through the Access to Business Capital Act, as well as her votes to spend state money on transportation projects that put people to work.
Asked how many jobs she’s created, Bonamici said, “I can’t even begin to count.”
Asked if the number totaled more than 100, she replied, “Yes, but I really haven’t tried to put a number on it.”
Suzy, these aren’t hardball questions. If you’re going to claim that “Job creation, rebuilding the economy are of course the No. 1 issue.”, and if you’re going to claim that you’re somehow a job-creator, then you really ought to consider bringing along a few numbers to buttress your words.
Vague stuff like helping small businesses get loans through the Access to Business Capital Act, as well as her votes to spend state money on transportation projects that put people to work just don’t cut it, Suze: all you’re really saying is that you like to spend other peoples’ money and call it “job creation”.
Even if economic times were flush, the northwestern corner of Oregon is long overdue for representation that doesn’t fall into the flyweight category. And in the present climate, another flyweight is the last thing the state needs in Congress.
