Occupy Portland Blocks “the 99%” From Getting to Work at Ports
Way to punish the working man, Occupiers!
Spoiled Portland Occupiers, bitter that their demands for “free” college degrees, health care and other goodies at the expense hard-working Americans who have successfully climbed the economic ladder (otherwise known as the “evil rich”) aren’t being met, decided to stick it to their fellow 99%-ers as part of yet another organized temper tantrum up and down the West Coast.
KGW News has the video coverage from this morning (note the classy mother who brought her young daughter as the obligatory human shield against “police brutality” at the 45 second mark).
The mother claims the protesters are “peaceful” and “police aren’t needed”, but reality begs to differ. Two protesters were arrested for crashing a stolen car stockpiled with weapons, according to KATU News:
Two people were arrested on weapons charges and a car police said was stolen and crashed on Marine Drive near Interstate 5 had four more Occupy Portland protesters inside, marking a rocky start to a planned large protest at a Port of Portland facility Monday morning. [...]
Police said one man had a loaded gun in his possession and there was a sword, gas masks and two-way radios in the vehicle he and another two men were in.
What a warm, loving environment to introduce your child to, lady.
Meanwhile, the “peaceful” protesters blocked truck drivers and workers from getting to their jobs, costing them badly-needed wages during this difficult holiday season. Fox 12 News reports:
Picket lines formed at the two terminals and blocked trucks from getting through the gates. Some truck drivers honked in support, but others were frustrated.
“If you really cared, you would go in there, get all those people to move so I could go to work. So I could put Christmas presents under my tree, put food on my table,” said truck driver Terry Busch.
Imre Ilyes, an Occupy demonstrator, said the groups were protesting to help, not hurt the drivers.
“I understand that he’s trying to make a living wage. But the problem is, if you look ahead 10 years, 20 years, it doesn’t look good for anybody,” Ilyes said. “So we have to take some measures right now to try to secure a little bit more financial security for ourselves.”
Screw you, hardworking taxpayers! The Occupiers’ own “financial security” (at your expense, of course) must come first!
Port of Portland spokesman Josh Thomas said there will be “lost shifts, lost hours and lost wages” as a result of the closures. Some workers still turned up at the terminal gates, but were turned away.
“We’re trying to get the word out the best we can to let them know they will not be able to work today,” Thomas said. “Unfortunately, in some cases, that means they won’t get paid.”
Number of businesses shut down, workers denied access to their jobs, weapons arrests (or ANY arrests, for that matter), or stolen cars at Tea Parties: zero.
